Music Comics, By Matt LevinBilling himself as, "comics' hardest working poet" Walking Man Comics is one part Garrison Keeler, one part Fred Rogers with a heavy twist of rubber stamps and feel-good sensations that will make you want to remember the days of kindergarden, and ponder why our world is in the mess it is. They make you smile a little, feel some more, and ponder about our world. Unique to his work is the wonderful blend of rubber stamping, sequential storytelling and sheet music. These little zines are like an olde-tyme radio programme in your hands. Issues Reviewed: #7, #9, #16, #48
As you thumb through this delicate blend of rubber stamps and poetry, you're taken immediatly by the love that these characters have for each other. These simple, fragile words are lovingly nurtured in Matt's hands and he writes about this special someone with undying love and compassion. Mrs. Matt is one very, very lucky lady. This comic/zine comes complete with sheet music, so that you can croon this wonderful piece of music to your special someone. This entry of Matt's is subtitled, "Secrets to Share" and like all of his works has a gentle, lilting quality to it. Matt discusses the concepts of secrecy in his poetic, musical manner, reminiscent of Art Garfunkel. His words flow, and as you read you almost don't need the included sheet music to hear the lyrical nature of his work. We're now being allowed to carry his work, and it is currently in stock.
Music Comics #16, by Matt Levin. $0.75 1/4 sized, 12 pages

Matt continues his long time work in music and comics, with this simple song. This issue is subtitled, "All My Memories" (are gone) and reaches people on a deep, soulful level. It discusses the difference between long and short term relationships, between investing time in someone and the rapid pace of our, 'hi, goodbye' society. This is a very moving short piece and in many ways a short political commentary about the times we live in. Matt may be contacted at [walkingmancomics AT comcast DOT net]
"Someone Whose Love" as this issue is subtitled, is a bright, cheerful song / poem, which is very uplifting and smacks of more traditional keltic folk music. The song itself deals with the worship of life, and all those things in it. Matt's poetic verse is strong in this issue, and the transition from poem to musical notation holds up well, even under the powerful concepts of enjoying life for its' own sake. We're proud that Matt has allowed us to carry some of his work. CURRENTLY IN STOCK
My Mystery Girl The FIRST 24 hour zine I’ve had the pleasure of perusing, Mae Undead’s flip over zine is pretty darned cool. The cover of side a (for lack of a better phrase) has a nice big shiny smiling face on it, with lots of nice hand-typed text; Mae’s writing is clear, and concise, she talks about her old distro, her pen pal relationships, and grammar issues. Mae’s split-personality zine is never more evident, when she compares her love for zombies, vampires and the like with her deep ingraining to not disrespect the dead. A nice mix-tape compilation and some zine recommendations round out this side…
SIDE B The darker, zombified Mae speaks with the story of Countess Elsa. Stark, line based drawings follow, with another short regarding a blind woman named Maria who would not die. Mae Undead’s short, one-page stories continue along the dead and dying genre, interspersed with more undead-based line drawings (I favor the three headed-stitched on zombie hybrid, myself). Mae runs the Gimmie Brains Distro and her work can be found thereNOTES on ANARCHISM
NOAM CHOMSKYNOTES on ANARCHISM
Notes on Anarchism is a fascinating article on Chomsky's well-researched concepts of Anarchism. He goes into extreme detail with numerous citations, arguments and many historical facts about how Anarchy is perceieved both by the mass media and by the governments in Power. This article only whets the appetite for Chomsky's work, and prove the reader with much to think about regaurding Anarchy in the present culture and personal responsibility.

Pirate Papa: A Journal of An Archo-Green DIY Parenting![]()
A hefty Papazine, Pirate Papa covers sane parenting techniques, but oh-so-much more. Sky Cosby’s work came to us via The Portland Zine Symposium 2006 and we’re not the same. His blunt, in-your-face no-frills, parenting zine is a straight lift from his blog (http://www.piratepapa.blogspot.com/) formatted nicely into a half-sized zine. Pirate Papa is much more than any sort of parenting zine though, it’s about the adventure that is parenting. Pirate Papa doesn’t just gloss over the happy crap. Because he’s taking it all in from the thirtysomething perspective you get the understanding that Sky understands the value of work that us momma creatures already knew was out there. The difference is Sky honors it, and Sky nurtures it. He tries to be aware of what’s going on AS it’s going on, and that makes all the difference. Sky’s reference material is long, longer than anyone could ever have imagined, and we are better because of it – the back pages of his zine are long lists of links – good stuff to know not just for the parent, but for the parent to be. Full of cool recipies (crepes…mmm…crepes…) short little blurts (notes on a gay daddy’s blog who lives in a red state) to an in-depth examination about how his daughter’s neurons are firing as they learn the things of life. This is a parenting zine not to be missed. 45 pages, $3.00
